Taiwan's entry into the World Trade Organization has brought about some concerns to the agricultural industry. The industry is worried that low-priced foreign products would flood the market causing hardship to local farmers. At the same time, the seeds of a certain vegetable variety from our company, have been resold by our customers to a nearby developing country. Consequently, not only were the seeds traded at a much higher price, but it also created a 'buying' fever.
It is apparent that following the rapid development of communications and other high-technologies, along with the progressive liberation of the international market, the world has entered the Global Village Age. The trend of this new age is the continuous improvement of the livelihood of human beings and the desire for higher quality. As long as the product has superiority, price is just a secondary issue.
In the course of crop planting, the cost of the seeds is actually only a small portion, but it plays a key beneficial role in the overall cultivation. Once a variety is wrongly selected, farming becomes more difficult, and the susceptibility to diseases increases.
